Charity description

St Lawrence Parish Church, York, is undertaking a major project in the autumn of 2016 – installing heating and a new sound system in the church. We will be putting in underfloor heating beneath the pews, installing cast-iron radiators to ensure heat throughout the church, and fitting a new sound system with hearing loop. Can you help us?

St Lawrence Parish Church has had no heating for twenty years – the last boiler was installed in the 1950s. The sound system was installed in the 1960s, and is now no longer working. We need to install heating to preserve the church for the future - heating is critically needed to dry out damp in the building, and preserve the stonework.

Without heating, the church is so cold in the winter that we have to move out of the church building and hold services in the Hall! This means that in the winter we struggle to serve our parish with weddings, Christenings and funerals.

We have raised two-thirds of the funds needed from generous grants and donations. We had raised enough money to cover the project, but an increase in costs has meant we now need to raise another £50,000. We are still going ahead with the project, installing the heating and sound system in autumn 2016. Can you help us raise the money to complete the work, and help ensure the future of St Lawrence Parish Church?
