In the UK 152,000 people have a stroke every year. 50,000 will sadly die and 50,000 will be left with a permanent disability. Stroke is the No. 2 biggest killer in the world and the No. 1 cause of severe adult disability in the UK. However with the right care and support in place, 50,000 people will make a recovery.
Stroke is a truly devastating condition - once a stroke survivor leaves hospital, the Stroke Association steps in. They desperately need our support in dealing with the immediate consequences of stroke and learning how to adjust to a new way of life and finding a new identity.
We provide specialised communication development
programmes for stroke survivors across the UK.We lobby government for increased funding and campaign for improved care & services. Planning and investing in the future is also extremely important to us; we do this through stroke education,
training and research.
