24-hour Summer Solstice Walk across Leicestershire
Colleagues from the School of Arts, University of Leicester are undertaking the challenge of walking for 24 hours across Leicestershire this midsummer.
We're raising money for South Leicestershire Community Sponsorship (Mary Ann and Scott are on the organising committee). This project aims to support, welcome, and resettle a refugee family fleeing the conflict in Syria. With your help, we can enable a family to come and live in South Leicestershire through this pioneering new national scheme.
All the money raised will go towards the costs both big and small of resettling a refugee family in the UK: everything from paying interpreters and providing airport transfers to providing a welcome basket of food. As part of our application through the Home Office for Community Sponsorship, SLCS needs to raise a total of £9000.
South Leicestershire Community Sponsorship is in partnership with the Salvation Army South Leicester, our sponsoring charity. All the money raised will be ringfenced by the Salvation Army for our Community Sponsorship scheme.
Thank you! Mary Ann, Scott, Mark, and Martín.
24-hour Summer Solstice walk
We're walking for 24 hours across Leicestershire at midsummer, starting at Leicester Cathedral at 6pm on 20th. First we'll head northwards through the night, and will aim to see the dawn in at Old John in Bradgate Park. Then we'll head back towards Leicester, dropping in to see our friends at the University of Leicester in the morning, before heading south across country. We'll reach our destination, the Old Grammar School in Market Harborough, at 6pm on the 21st. We hope someone will have a cup of tea ready for us!
