Dancing for Light (Morocco)
I am an experienced circle dance teacher and took a group of dancers on holiday to Taroudant, S Morocco. We visited the MCT and were moved and inspired by the passion and stories told by the workers, social workers and psychologists helping very vulnerable children and their families. These kids are at high risk of exclusion from education, and at risk of drugs, crime and homelessness. Targetted help makes a huge difference. MCT needs to refurbish a children's room (we saw it) with equipment and materials to provide constructive and creative activities (£1500 needed for this). 2016 was such a weird and difficult year and I wanted to do something that would really make a difference and was an antidote to the dark things in the world - hence "Dancing for Light".
I am offering introductory sessions for people who don't know Circle Dance, and workshops for those who have done dance before in return for donations. I don't want expenses other than hall hire if needed. I can teach all levels of ability and less able people, and can provide whole day workshops or short sessions for any social group. Circle dance is easy to learn and doesn't need partners and draws on music from around the world. It is fun and promotes a sense of well being and community.
