Society of Anaesthetists of the South West Region
The SASWR is a thriving society made up from anaesthetists working within the South West Region. We organise two scientific meeting each year in addition to supporting trainees and consultants throughout the year.
As President I am encouraging as many departments as possible to raise teams to cycle to our next meeting, and in doing so raise funds for the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain & Ireland's (AAGBI) worthy charity: SAFE AFRICA.
It is hoped that this will become a regular thing and we will keep this page open whilst the AAGBI continue to collect funds but on this first trip we have 6 members cycling:
Truro: Rebecca Brooks
Plymouth: Andy Burgess, Scott Ferguson
Barnstaple: Dave Beard, Guy Rousseau
Exeter: Lauren Barker.
It is hoped that this page will be the sole conduit for funds to the charity so that we can keep track on the total we have achieved.
UPDATE... We all made it safely...in glorious weather. It may have ended..but dont let that stop you donating!!
Help save lives in Africa through safer anaesthesia.
Around the world people are suffering or dying unnecessarily from the lack of safe anaesthesia in surgery, something that is taken for granted in the UK.
The situation is critical in Africa, where millions lack access to safe anaesthesia.
SAFE Africa is the Association of Anaesthetists fundraising campaign aiming to:
- Raise at least £100,000
- Scale-up the delivery of three-day SAFE obstetrics and paediatrics training courses
- Sustainably improve anaesthesia education and care in Africa in the long-term
Each one of these will go on to treat around 1,500 patients each year.
With your support, we can train even more practitioners and improve the safety of thousands of patients in Africa.
