The charities we are raising money for are 40tude, curing colon cancer and The Oxford Kidney Unit Trust (on behalf of The Young Adult Clinic).

In December 2016, eight friends and work colleagues resolved to row the River Thames for charity.  Two had been impacted by recent bad news: Gavin Murray's bowel cancer had returned requiring him to undergo extensive chemotherapy and Chris Mathew's son, William, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and he will require a kidney transplant.

Being told the devastating news you have a chronic illness is hard to take at any age of your life, however imagine being told it whilst you are young.  Imagine being told you have chronic kidney failure and will need immediate treatment.  The Oxford Young Adult clinic is an innovative service with supports young people through diagnosis, treatment, transplant and recovery.

There are 41,900 new cases of bowel cancer being diagnosed every year. If diagnosed at an early stage, bowel cancer can be treated very successfully in over 90% of cases.  In spite of this, bowel cancer remains the UK's second biggest cancer killer, claiming a life every half an hour.
